Springfield Elementary had an AMAZING time at our first-ever Night at the Museum at the end of April! Students in grades K–3 created projects connected to topics they explored through our new CKLA reading curriculum this year. With guidance from their teachers, students selected subjects that sparked their interest and that they wanted to learn more about. At home, they worked hard to create unique displays showcasing their learning.
During the event, our 3rd graders had the special opportunity to share and discuss their projects face-to-face with museum guests, bringing their learning to life in a meaningful way. Projects from the other grades were displayed throughout our themed wings: the Global Exploration Gallery, American History Atrium, Library of Literature, and Science Solarium.
We were also fortunate to welcome an incredible group of community partners who sponsored our wings and created engaging experiences for our students in the gym. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Penn West Edinboro History Club, Hagen History Center, Gannon Literature Department, Mercyhurst Science Department, Mercyhurst Education Department, Penn West Edinboro PSEA, Werner Books, and the Erie County Public Library and we look forward to continuing to partner with them for this event in the future!
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our students. We can’t wait to make this event even bigger and better next year!

Third graders from Northwestern Elementary finally released the trout they have worked so hard to raise all year long! From testing the water and feeding the fish to learning about the trout life cycle and food chain, students have truly become young scientists and conservationists. One of the most exciting moments was seeing nature in action — a few of our trout were even eaten by largemouth bass in the lake! 🎣
Throughout the day, students rotated through several hands-on learning stations. They learned how to cast a spinning rod with FishUSA, practiced fly fishing, identified macroinvertebrates, explored nature during a scavenger hunt, and learned all about conservation from Mr. Kerr of Trout Unlimited. Students also discovered the important work of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission while releasing the trout into their new home. 🐠🦅🌿
It was incredible to watch students connect classroom learning to the real world while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. Their excitement, curiosity, and teamwork made the day so special. We are so proud of all their hard work and the care they showed for our trout project all year long. 💙 This was truly a field trip to remember! ☀️

Northwestern Elementary celebrated School Principal Day last week by surprising Mr. C at a school wide assembly. The 5th graders created a tunnel to hype him up while the whole school cheered him on. He was also presented with a variety of cards and notes from students. Thanks for all you do Mr. C!!

The Class of 2029 laid the first bricks of this wall, which will be rebuilt each year with the current and previous class projects.
During this project, one student, Ciera Silman, took the initiative to reach out to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, to see if a survivor would be able to speak with our students. Her success is leading to an in-school field trip for all 9th grade students on May 27, 2026, from 1-2 PM in the high school PAC via Zoom. During this time, students will hear from a museum representative and a Holocaust survivor. The identity of our speaker is unknown at this time. Other teachers will also have the opportunity to join the broadcast from their own classrooms if they so choose.
One of the greatest fears of all survivors is to have their experiences be forgotten. Northwestern High School is working towards making sure the future "never forgets."
If you encounter a current 9th grade student, encourage him/her to share the story of his/her Person to Remember.

The top four in each of the competitive events has the opportunity to move on to the national competition level. This year Brodie Mikovich, Paxton Bachelder and Matthew Way will be traveling to San Antonio to compete in the Banking and Financial Systems category. Congratulations!

Congratulations to Northwestern Junior Emerson Swanson for being elected to the PA Future Business Leaders of America State Officer Treasurer position for the 2026-27 school year. After months of preparation, interviews and meetings, Emerson gave a campaign speech at the Giant Center during the campaign rally and the next morning interacted with voting delegates in her campaign booth to present her platform. Then, just as in a political campaign, Emerson waited for the votes to be tallied and the winner to be announced! Emerson will now serve on the executive board throughout the upcoming year. Again, congratulations!
P.S. We have more exciting news to share soon about the recent State FBLA Competition. Check back this week for another announcement!
