Today Northwestern High School students, Jordan, Kaleb, Olivia and Nevaeh, traveled to IU5 in Edinboro to discuss the impacts of social media's influence with PA Attorney General, Dave Sunday. Our students engaged in insightful dialogue and provided meaningful thoughts to the General. The information gathered today will help guide the formation of policies, practices and laws in Pennsylvania. Our school community should be very proud of the maturity and insight our students shared today. Great job Wildcats!
Kindergarten students celebrated the start to Spring break with a day full of fun!
First, they learned how peeps are made. Then, students designed their very own peep. Next, they wrote about one of their favorite peeps and why they love them.
The young Wildcat "peeps" also practiced their addition skills TO 20 by peeping 👀 a secret addition problem hiding in the peep and using a number line or counting on strategy to help solve the problem.
They ended the morning by adopting their very own Peep and became Peep Parents!! Some even were surprise twins! 🐰🐰
Last, students created a 3D home for a peep using toothpicks and jellybeans. 🫘
Monthly meetings were held with a focus on reflecting on the year so far and identifying an "aha" moment- when we realized something, an "apology" moment - when we recognize something we regret, or an "appreciation" moment- when we express gratitude for something.
Students also did a challenge to stand in a circle, balance one foot and one hand on the person in front, and work together to move around in a circle, symbolizing how the freshmen students can rely and lean on their P.A.W. Mentors even when it seems impossible or difficult.
Additionally, before spring break, P.A.W. Mentors sponsored an "egg hunt" of sorts where students could search for 35 hidden "Hoppy" Herath's hidden in the hallways. Students who found one were rewarded with a paw squishy.

Northwestern High School Chemistry 2 students built an iodine clock last week. The “clock” required understanding chemical reaction rates, collision theory, and solution concentrations. In the pictures and video, you’ll see students preparing their solutions and attempting to simultaneously mix 12 different solutions in order to get the clock to “run” from 1 o’clock to 12 o’clock (the 12 o’clock solution did experience a color change, but it occurred after the video was stopped). Our staff enjoyed getting to know each child and sharing a glimpse of the exciting experiences that await them at Northwestern School District. We can’t wait to see these young learners walk through our doors in the fall, next year can’t come soon enough!

While we weren’t quite lucky enough to catch a leprechaun, we certainly enjoyed discovering the playful mischief he left behind throughout the school!
