To kick off National FFA week, members of the Albion Future Farmers of America chapter will be at Tractor Supply Co., 750 Farmstead Drive, Edinboro, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 20, to promote Northwestern School District’s sugar shack project.

The district will break ground this spring on a sugar shack and outdoor classroom to be located behind Northwestern High School.

FFA members are raising money to help cover costs of the $80,000 project.

Tomorrow, students will sell maple cotton candy and other snacks and tell the public what the unique project is all about.

Albion area businesses are helping support the students’ efforts by putting displays describing the project at their locations. Patrons are encouraged to drop change in the sap bucket or one-gallon syrup jug displays.

Participating area businesses include The Mikki Bort Martial Arts Foundation, Haircare by Lynne, Kim Miczo’s Hollywood Hair, Albion Jazzercise, Albion Borough, Green Roof Inn, Marquette Savings Bank, Fedor’s Auction House, Andover Bank, Tractor Supply Co. in Edinboro and Albion Shurfine.

National FFA week runs from Feb. 20 to Feb. 27. This week more than half a million students across the country will celebrate the role of agriculture in our daily lives.  National FFA Week encourages students to raise awareness and share the message of agriculture.
